Did not think this movie was that good. The monsters and suspense were done quite well, yet that is all I can really say. It had quite a few unnecessary and cheap jump scares along with the cliché terrible horror movie decisions. Like when they get chased at the start, they run into the woods instead of the street. If they kept to the street, they would have witnesses. And I doubt Tommy would beat them with a bat in the middle of a crowded street. When Tommy gets attacked by Harold, he stabs his NON-EXISTENT STOMACH. How stupid can you be!? In Auggie’s room, he decides to hide in a dead end room rather than breaking the window. Ruth decides to ‘pop’ the giant lump on her face, instead of going to see the school nurse? Or an adult? Chuck runs to fuck knows where in the hospital instead of outside. And the officer shoots a talking severed head, 6 TIMES! If it’s talking and severed, shooting it won’t kill it. It should already be dead as it’s brain would have no blood. Therefore it’s ability to stay alive is not derivative from its brain. But if you just want to be sure, shoot it once with a good clean shot. If that doesn’t work, then run. This simplistic logic is done so badly.

The protagonist and deuteragonist (Stella & Ramón (Had to look his name up. Couldn’t even remember it.)) were so bland and unlikeable, more-so Stella. The script killed every character that had some interesting trait and kept those that did not. Whilst Ramón had no interest to me, I did end up hating Stella. She made lots of stupid choices despite her strong and pride driven attitude. The worst had to be Chuck’s death. When Chuck is afraid of going to the red room immediately after telling us why, Stella still proceeds to drag him, even though that is clearly how he will die... which he does. She technically killed everyone. And don’t say she didn’t know. She deserved it after lifting the book of a haunted soul. Of course, she also ‘dies’ last. She lifted the book, so why is she not the first victim? Is someone lifted my socks and I wanted to kill them because of it, I don’t think I would kill their friend’s sister’s boyfriend first, or even at all. She doesn’t even try to explain to her dad about the whole situation. Whether or not he believes her, at least she would have tried. At the end she says “I’m going to get them all back. The answers in the book, and I won’t stop until I find it!”. Oh shut the f*ck up. Leave the book. Leave it! You’re not f*cking superman. You’re about as useful as a blunt knife.

The antagonist, Sarah, was just a straight up dick. She was angry at her family... so she proceeds to kill a group of kids? Nonsensical. Especially characters like Auggie, who literally was just there. Also, when the twisted monster (Ramón’s monster) appears, it appears in front of others which it has never done before. It then kills the police officer. So Sarah is just killing innocent people now. Makes perfect sense. If you’re going to set it up as ‘only those who were at the haunted house’, then don’t break it.

After watching this, two scenes got me......

First which wasn't so bad was the Dream.... The setup was fantastic, didn't need to rely on a jumps are just kinda had the right feeling

However the one thing that made me get up from my seat in fear was Harold, I hate Body Horror (Elm Street 4 cockroach scene made me sick) and contortion stuff like that.... The transformation scene was so damn good

                                        Ahem...trash movie....ahem

Seriously tho the story was trash the character development was trash. The ending was trash. The pacing was trash. Their assumption that people would remember all these stories absolutely backfired. I remember maybe 2 of the stories out of all the ones they used which is fine but maybe a bit more backstory on the stories would have done them well. The monsters were well done however aside from the spider one (cus that’s horrifying) the others elicited laughs. Cmon the one kid could have easily juked the slow moving blob girl. This movie was not a good film it plays like a more mature goosebumps movie with a weaker plot.

Jeez, ya'll and that movie are all doin' my girl, the Pale Woman, wrong. Yeah, she's bulbous and creepy as hell in appearance, but that smile is clearly serene, dammit. In her story, The Dream, she was legitimately warning a woman about the room to avoid a bad fate. Even when the dumb broad ended up in the room in reality, calling everything a coincidence, she appeared at the door, convincing the woman to GTFO without so much as a word. She's a good girl, a GOOD GIRL! Out of all the ghosts and monsters in the series, she's the only one I'd be okay with haunting me. She's like an alarm system. Appreciate.

Still, it kind of felt like the serene thing was sensed by the director, too. The boxing in bit was intimidating, but Chuck ended up getting whisked away by motherly bear hug. I think he had the better end out of everybody.

Edit, because I feel the need to specify: The room she was dreaming about featured carpet made out of large squares that looked like trap doors and windows that were fastened shut with big nails sticking out of the wood. The Pale Woman leans over the girl in the dream and says "This is an evil place. Flee while you can."

She is an artist who had to travel for some reason, and, though the dream unnerved her enough to switch locations, she ended up at a pleasant looking house that had a room for rent. Surprise, surprise, it's the room from her dream. She calls it a coincidence and the landlady goes to fetch her some tea while she gets settled. As she sits on the bed, staring at the nailed windows and trap door carpet uneasily, there's a knock at the door. Thinking it's the woman with tea, she opens it, and the Pale Woman is on the other side staring at her (and, I imagine, looking at her like she's a f*cking dumba$$). The artist immediately snatches up her suitcase and leaves.

Obviously, there was an actual trapdoor under one of those carpets that was likely a slaughter house or torture chamber, and the windows were nailed shut to prevent a victim from leaving. The 'kind' landlady was also likely drugging the tea she was about to give to the artist, if she wasn't outright preparing a weapon or chloroform. The Pale Lady saved her from death, or possibly something much worse.
